International Screenings: Boricua en El Medio

Filmmaker, photographer and anthropologist Á.I. Rivera documents the Puerto Rican perspective in the Midwest in an attempt to better understand the ambiguous, yet exclusively understood notion of what it means and/or what is Puerto Rican. In conjunction with the more colloquial marker of identification, Boricua, he set out to explore the notion of boricuaness (Puerto Ricaness). Boricua being a term used by the Boricuas/Tainos, a culturally compact term which Puerto Ricans use endearingly. This documentary focuses on real people and families of the Puerto Rican diaspora with stories about what identity means to them.
